Brighter than Fear: Prism Youth Program (8:28) is a microdocumentary set in mid-Missouri, where LGBTQ+ teens gather weekly at Prism, a support group run by The Center Project, the region’s only LGBTQ+ resource center. The film follows Rylie, a transgender teen searching for connection and safety, and Vera Elwood, the youth program coordinator who sustains the group.
For many participants, Prism is the only place they can be out, be seen, and connect with peers.
A large portion of the teens are homeschooled, making Prism their sole in-person community. As Vera says: “If the only thing we do is keep these kids alive, our organization is successful.”
